1890'S Regina Double Comb Music BoxA regina music box, called in its day âthe queen of the music boxes. Â prior to edisonâs invention the phonograph, any home required either a musician and instrument, or a player piano or a music box to provide the music for the familyâs entertainmentâas they sang along with the music. This msuic box is in quite good condition.
It is a âdouble combed, â meaning it has two rows fo tines to produce the tunes. The mechanism itself has a serial number 44185. The 15âx 15â x 10â box appears to be mahogany, and except for a small circle of a water stain on the top is in excellent condition. Half of the label for the stop lever is missing as esen in the photo the box contains a listing of patents with the latest date being may 1897 and a brass sellerâs plaque states that it was from the sherman clay company of san francisco, one of the premier music shops of its day. It comes with eleven 12 inch disks, from the same era.
The disks all are in working condition, though a fwe (though still workable) show a bit of rust or age, since they are over a hundred years old. The box has a small lock, but no key.
It continues to supply wonderful music. See and hear it play in the video below.
