Antique Symphonion Simplex Disc Music Box 11 DiscsGood morning from congers, ny. I always like mechanical music items, so i was pleased to find this symphonion simplex music box in a local estate. It comes with the 11 dissc shows (list below), and sounds pretty good (follow youtube link below). Symphonion simplex music box with 11 music discs (i find it somehow amusing that the discs rae only about 1 larger than a cd). 7.75 wide, 6.75 deep, and appx. 4.75 tall, discs are appx. Wear to top decal, missing handle? On front of case, hinge cracked out on rear and repaired, winding arm missing wood trim (see photo).For all that, it works quite well, and sounds nice (i used the clip below to illustrate the general sound of the box the box sounds better with the lid closed, but it was a really boring video with no movement). Interior label shows some age marks and wear. English reads symphonion/ patented in all states/ music-box with/ steel tongues and/ interchangeable/ stele music discs, / playing any number/ of tunes on the same/ instrument/ keep the box closed/ while playing the/ instrument. Made in germany at the base. Old serial number sticker on base, part reading 276157. Movemetn serial numbered same number. One broken comb tooth on movement (see photo, towards middle). Disc listing ben hur chariot race march, listen to the mocking bird, koom for thee by jra, the blood of the lamb, a hot time in the old town, hymne nationai autrichien, (illeg), sweeping through the gate, polka from the opera, carmen, the trumpeter of the regiment polka, a waltz from the opera robin hood. Discs are, in general, clean, if a bit faded. Hopefully, the below image will be a link to the box in operation on youtube.
