Large Antique Swiss Cylinder Music Box 175 CylinderThis magnificent 8 tune music box which is the sublime-harmonic-tremolo format, is in excellent condition and is powered by a double spring barrel. The tune arrangements are the very finest classical music and the three combs allow the music to be played in its finest form. The tremolo effect is a very nice feature. All teeth and tisp are excellent, and the 122 total teeth on the 3 combs were recently redampered. The cylinder si 17.5 long. There is a zither attahcment which allows changing the sound when manually operated. The tune indicator is perfectly functional and allows you to say the name of the tune playing by referring to the original tnue card. There is alos a safety check built into the mechanism. There is a selector lever which gives you the choice of repeating a given tune or continuously playing the entire program all the way through. I do not know the maker but the serial number is 21454 and the box was probably manufactured around 1885 to 1895. The case top background is rosewood veneer complimented with an elaborate inlay of assorted woods. There is a significant amount of olive and other woods border accents on the top and front. There is a hinegd glass cover over the mechanism which gives some volume control. With the top up, the sound fills a room. The case measures 30.5 wide by 12 deep by 8 high.Theer is a small seperation or crack on the right front side but the box is quite structurally sound.
