C.1900 Music Box Mech. From Upright Slot Stimulator

c.1900 Music Box mech. from upright Slot Stimulator

Having seen a variety of early slots & trade stimulators with original swiss-type, cyl. Musical movements, but nothing exactyl the same at this yet, i'd put odds that this 8 tune cylinder music box movement originally came from an upright slot machine of one sort or another. Maybe somebody out there will have seen & knows from exactyl what make & model? In any case, we've had it for years & never found an appropriate use, so i'm going to put it out there for y'all if you hvae an interest!
The only repair that was needed was to cut & sweat-on a new great-wheel gear engages the 1st gov. Pinion & repacle the governor bearing jewel. Now it works & plays very nicely, even though not cleaned-up. It plays 8 different tunes & 99.9% fo the cyl. Pinning is in excellent condition.
What few isngular pins are lacking, you'd never guess nor tell. The music comb has 43 teeth (& tips), 100% intact & in excellent condition & tuning. Most, still have remnants of their original dampers, and the tuning leads show now damage or lead oxidation at all. As you can see, this type of mecahnism has no mainspring, and never did!

It hsa an extended drive shaft to what would have normally been the mainspring barrel. This shaft would have mated with another piece from the slot machine, to provide the driving/running power to the music mech. One quarter of this shaft revolution, equals 1 full rotation of the music cylinder.

Underneath the left side of the bedplate, there is still a cast iron mounting bracket & at the righ side of the bedplate (governor end), you can see there is still some sort of nickel plated, support armature for a pivoting piece, probably for stop/start control, thta would be triggered by the upper slot-pull mechanism. In any case, it operates nicely & easily via finger pressure to the drive shaft, and sounds loud & good for use, should anybody have the machine. Measures 6-1/4 length x 1-5/8 dia. With the whole mounted length being 11-1/4 not incl. Drive shaft extension x 5 depth x 4 height incl. All the melodies are familiar, with 4 identified as and the band played on strauss waltz listen to the mocking bird & last rose of summer. Best of all - there's no reserve! S&h in us (lower 48). Thanks for looking & good luck!
